E-Book Sales Surge After Holidays

USA Today ran a big story talking about how e-book sales surged after the holidays. This is because of the release of products like the Kindle Fire as well as continuing sales of the iPad. According to the USA Today article, sales of e-books doubled from 10% to 20% of all book sales.

In one way or another, most of you are content creators. Maybe your work lends itself to an e-book and maybe it doesn't. But it is something that you may want to know how to create so you can take advantage of the shift from paper books to e-books. I did a post in late 2010 titled How to Self-Publish an E-Book with some helpful information. The good news is the tools for creating e-books keep getting easier.

If you have a desire to create something, I'm going to repeat the very first suggestion in the article: It's gotta be good! Take your time to create some great content. Just because you self-publish doesn't mean that you should have an editor massage your work into great shape.

Given the uptake on tablets and other e-readers, I won't be suprised to see e-book sales move up to 30% or more by the end of the year. Get started on good content now and you can take advantage of the market. I went to e-books nearly ten years ago and there is no way I'm going to look back!
