Store Important Information in Evernote and Retrieve it Anywhere

EvernoteEvery single day we get an e-mail or a phone call from someone who purchased something in the past. Some have had a hard drive crash, while others have simply misplaced the information. The user has lost the information we provided to them to log-in, authenticate or simply use the product they purchased. Go ahead and ask yourself if you've ever lost that type of information. I'm sure all of us, myself included, are guilty of it at some point. Yet I'm convinced a large percentage of users never make any attempt to keep this information even when we include a line in the e-mail, in red, saying "Please keep this e-mail in a safe place."

While the situation I describe is users contacted Unleashed, I'm sure the same thing happens with other vendors who provide similar information. I am a customer of many other vendors who provide this information and I do my best to save the information they provide so I don't have to contact them in the future to resend it.

There is simply no excuse for you to lose this information as it is really easy to store it in a safe place. If you receive information you need to save, consider using a free utility like Evernote. If you are having trouble keeping track of the files you download, I covered that in Store Downloaded Software and Serial Number in a Safe Place. Or if we're talking about remembering passwords, you may want to read Choosing Strong Passwords and Remembering Them Easily. Today's post certainly can work with the plans in those posts, but also gives you a place to store all types of information you need to be able to find.

How you choose to organize information within Evernote is up to you. You may prefer to have a separate "note" for each individual piece of information or maybe you have a single note that stores every single serial number. Heck, you may want to break things into categories. It is really up to you how things are organized. For those who claim this is difficult, you are lazy! It is as simple as copying a piece of information from an e-mail (or other source) and pasting it into another place. Each time you get a new nugget of information to save, it will only take you seconds to add it to a note for future reference.

One of the best parts about using Evernote for this task is that the information is stored in the cloud. I'm sure someone out there is cursing the cloud already, but you really need to give this a try. Remember, it is free! So when your hard drive crashes, you can still get the information back. If you use a laptop and desktop, you can access the information from both machines. Away from a computer and only have a tablet or smartphone? Once again, you can still get to the information. In short, you have no reason to lose the information. Evernote uses an elephant in their logo and icon because it remembers everything for you! All you have to do is give it the information to save.
